Geneva Ohio – A Vacation for Wine Lovers

Geneva on the Lake has been a popular Ohio vacation destination since the early 1900’s. Located on the shores of Lake Erie, it has seen such visitors as John D. Rockerfeller, Harvey Firestone and Henry Ford. In addition to lake activities such as swimming, boating, and fishing, Geneva is known for its wineries. There are eight different wineries in Geneva, each with its own atmosphere and flair.

Chalet Debonne Vineyards – This family-run winery has been around since 1971. Their wines have gained recognition from competitions across the country. Tours of the winery are free, and tastings are available. Try a Chardonnay or Chambourcin while listening to live music at this Euopean-style chalet.

Ferrante Winery & Ristorante – Whether you come for the wine, or to dine on their Italian menu, you won’t be disappointed. During the summer, you can enjoy live music while sitting on their outdoor terrace, looking out over 65 acres of vineyards. If you like sweet wines, try one of their ice wines, made from Vidal Blanc or Cabernet Franc grapes.

The Lakehouse Inn Winery – This bed and breakfast has its own winery and is located right on the lake for spectacular views. Tastings are available, and there is also a lunch and dinner menu.

Grand River Cellars – Located in the heart of the Grand River Valley Wine Region, this winery was established in 1976. Enjoy the warm and inviting atmosphere while sampling a Pinot Grigio or Reisling.

Virant Family Winery – The Virant family has been making wines for three generations now. Visit the relaxed setting of this winery, just south of Geneva. They pride themselves on making wine the old-fashioned way, and currently have 11 varieties available.

Old Firehouse Winery – For something unique, visit this winery located in an old firehouse with historic charm. In addition to traditional grape wines, they also offer a host of fruit wines, including Spiced Apple, Blackberry, and Frosty Peach.

The Winery at Spring Hill – If you’re looking for an upscale winery, this is the place. They have several different wine collections, including the Premium Wine Collection, Covered Bridge Collection, and a Fruit Wine Collection.
