Get to know Historic Corydon and Harrison County in Indiana

Get to know Indiana’s first state capitol, Historic Corydon. Tour the State Historic sites where you will step back in time and learn Corydon’s rich history. Visit the first State Capitol, Governor Hendrick’s Headquarters and the Constitution Elm. A short drive away is the home to Indiana’s only Civil War Battlefield, where the Battle of Corydon took place July 9, 1863. Be sure to stop by Zimmerman Art Glass where you can watch a first-hand demonstration of off -hand glassmaking. Zimmerman’s carries on a family tradition that has continued through four generations. After discovering Corydon’s beginnings find out what lies beneath our town.  Have you ever wondered what it would be like to explore Indiana’s underground? Harrison County is home to two spectacular caves and close to a third. Start your caving adventure at Indiana Caverns for a walking tour combined with a boat ride. Along the way you will see ice age bones, amazing waterfalls and experience great heights and depths. After the tour head to the gem mine where you can pan for fossils and gemstones. After a full day of adventure make your way to downtown Corydon for diner and a sweet treat. After checking into a local hotel, take the kids to play miniature golf at Golf Shores Fun Center so they can wind down for the night. Everyone will need their rest for the next day! Day two will begin at Squire Boone Caverns and Village. Discovered by Squire Boone and his brother Daniel, this cave offers dazzling cave formations of stalactites, stalagmites and flowstone. Another highlight of the cavern are the rushing rivers and waterfalls that carry over a million gallons of water through the caverns every day, this is something rarely seen in caves. From Memorial Day to Labor Day explore Squire Boone Village where you can dip your own candles, visit Boone’s kitchen for lunch, watch lye soap being made, pan for (fools) gold or watch the Grist Mill grind grain. If this has not satisfied your adventurous spirit, head over to Squire Boone Ziplines. Soar through the treetops on this state-of-the-art zip-line course that offers an eco-adventure along with an adrenaline rush for both novice and master zippers alike. The Canopy tour allows guests to zip through the air at up to 35 miles an hour. If you’re not quite tall enough, no problem, Squire Boone Ziplines has the only Kids Zip in the area. Before heading back to Historic Corydon for the night, visit O’Bannon Woods State Park where you can experience a pioneer farmstead and nature center. Your last day of adventure will take you to Marengo Cave. Here you can choose between two walking tours or do both! The first tour is the Crystal Palace. This is an easy tour that winds its way through formation filled rooms and past huge flowstone deposits. The second tour is the Dripstone Trail. This tour is known for its many delicate soda straws, slender totem pole stalagmites, and the unique Penny Ceiling. You can experience in three days what took nature millions of years to make, but be sure to bring a jacket because the caves stay around 55 degrees year round. After spending the last two day discovering Indiana’s Underground take time to enjoy some time above ground at Cave Country Canoes where there are trips for every skill level.
