The Zone of Totality… Where You Want to Be

The Zone of Totality is the place to be for the Total Solar Eclipse taking place and Anderson and Madison County, Indiana is right in the middle of it! The City of Anderson, along with the Anderson Municipal Airport, 282 Airport Road off SR 32, Anderson, the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, and the Anderson Madison County Visitors Bureau are partnering for perhaps the largest viewing party in the county. From 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8th, they are preparing for thousands to come to the airport, park free, and await the eclipse. While there, guests will enjoy themed music, food trucks, and other festivities. Free eclipse glasses will be given to each attendee and commemorative tee shirts will be available for purchase.

Just to the east, Mounds State Park, 4306 Mounds Rd., Anderson, will be a hub of activity. The park will open at 7:00 a.m. for day trippers as all camping facilities are full. Across the park are 300 parking spaces to be filled. There will be food trucks and the park’s amenities will be available, but plan to pack food, drinks, and other needs. Bring trash bags to carry out your refuse, and dress in layers. It may be April, but this is Indiana and Mother Nature loves to surprise.

Other locations to consider are Mystic Waters Family Campground, 5435 W SR 38, near Pendleton. Some tent sites and cabins are still available. Live music and activities will begin on Sunday evening. Also, Crossroads Global United Methodist Church, 2000 N Scatterfield Rd, Anderson, is opening their site with 200 primitive campsites. They are planning a full weekend of activities with food available for purchase Friday, April 5 – Monday, April 8, and it’s only $100.00 to camp for all four nights.
