Have a Wonderful Stay in Jacksonville IL
with Something for Everyone
Conveniently located between Springfield, IL and St. Louis, MO, Jacksonville IL is a great place to live, work and visit. A thriving community, rich in historical treasures, unparalleled educational institutions, growing businesses and hospitality all its own, Jacksonville meets modern demands with a classic lifestyle!
For the history lovers, the city’s rich heritage includes numerous interesting sites that help make the past relevant to all generations. Come follow in the footsteps of Abraham Lincoln through historic Jacksonville. See the actual places and hear the real stories of Lincoln as told by his friends and associates, while Looking for Lincoln in Jacksonville. Or visit one of the many Underground Railroad sites, including Woodlawn Farm and also some of our historic homes. Jacksonville was one of the many stations along the Underground Railroad and one of the busiest during the mid-1800’s. Although most are private residences, many of the homes used in the Underground Railroad can still be seen in Jacksonville, including Woodlawn Farm, the showcase homestead of Jacksonville’s extensive Underground Railroad network which you can experience first-hand! Lastly, a trip to Jacksonville is not complete without a visit to the historic Governor Joseph Duncan Mansion, the only Governor’s Mansion still standing in the state (other than Springfield of course!).
Would you like to explore your “artsy” side? Come visit the beautiful grand structure of the David Strawn Art Gallery. This gallery features monthly changing art exhibits and permanent collections which include displays of Miriam Cowgur Allen doll collections. The Jacksonville Symphony Society is one of the top orchestras in the state, or you could even catch a live theater production at Sibert Theatre located on Illinois College Campus!
We also ask that you take time to experience some of our wide range of sports and recreation. For the outdoorsman, the Jacksonville Area is home to an award-winning lake for fishing, boating, parks, and campgrounds. For the athletic-type, there is a dirt racetrack which world-renown racers have raced on, and a large sports complex in Future Champions which hosts multiple tournaments a year. Fishing out at Lake Jacksonville is a past time that all enjoy while strolling the new walking trails that opened out that way. Lastly, we ask that you bring your camera for that perfect photo opportunity as you may catch beautiful eagles along the Meredosia River. Visitors will find lots to do, both night and day!
No visit in Jacksonville is complete without visiting our newly restored downtown! You will find entertainment, dining, murals, and shopping all in the heart of this downtown community!
