Visit Morehead, Kentucky – Off the Beaten Path

Morehead, Kentucky is just off the beaten path surrounded by the picturesque mountains of the Daniel Boone National Forest. With the scenery as its backdrop, the town is the perfect place to unwind by hiking on a trail or sipping coffee and brews with friends old and new. The downtown day and night life offers a quaint array of shopping, dining and just watching the weather turn warm or cold.

Thru hikers frequent the streets from the tall pines in the distance after starting their trek either in Tennessee or 15 or so miles away at the Northern Terminus of the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail. While in town, explore the art galleries, murals throughout the streets, venture inside open storefronts and when they are ready, refuel and do it all over again.

If you are taking a drive, don’t wait to hit the backroads starting with a trip around Cave Run Lake. The serene waters of the lake are calm in the winter which makes it right for fishing for the elusive musky that patrol our waters. You will see anglers hidden in coves trying their best to capture what are often 25–50-pound fish raised right here at the Minor E. Clark Fish Hatchery. Yes, this lake, known as the Musky Capital of the South, is famous, so casting a line or two might just land your photo in the history books.

Now, what are you waiting for, visit us off the beaten path and find out why there is always just a little more to Morehead.
