Turning a Family Visit into a Family Vacation Getaway

Sure, you have to take that annual visit to see your great aunt Martha in Tampa Bay, but you don’t have to experience another boring trip! Instead, turn that potentially dull visit into a great family vacation getaway!

Now, you’ll definitely have to get creative on how you “sell” this experience to your relatives. You don’t want to be rude, after all! So why not try these hints to make sure no one’s feelings are bruised:

1. Offer to Take Your Relatives on Day Excursions

Nothing says “I love you” more than a generous offer to take your relatives to local family vacation spots. Don’t assume that just because they live in an area that they tour their own regions; most people have no clue what excitement lies in their own neighborhoods! This way, you can introduce your grandparents, aunts, uncles and nieces to local haunts. (And when you’re footing the bill, they’ll like it even more!)

2. Sneak Away for a Couples Only Night

Invite the husbands and wives in your group to a “couples only” night somewhere in your relatives’ region. Just get a babysitter (if necessary) and go! This makes for fun family vacations (especially for the over 18 crowd!) and you don’t have to pay for a hotel if you’re staying with relatives or friends.

3. Take the Kids on a Historic Tour

If you’re a history buff or you’d just like to learn about a part of our country, you can always tell your relatives that you’d like to learn more about the background of where they live. Typically, people love to tour people around their own towns and villages — it’ll be like a mini fun family vacation!
