Welcome to Salamanca – Seneca Nation of Indians’ Allegany Territory

Brimming with rural charm, Salamanca is the only city in the United States that lies almost entirely on Native American Territory. This lends a unique cross-cultural richness to life in Salamanca not found anywhere else. Our City and Territory are engulfed in natural beauty. Nestled in the Enchanted Mountains of western New York State, the Allegany River flows through the center of Salamanca on its way south. Whether you are here for business, vacation, or visiting friends and relatives, you can enjoy the bounty of this beautiful environment.

Start your visit by stopping at the Salamanca Area Chamber of Commerce office at 26 Main Street where our friendly staff will help you plan your stay. We hope you enjoy our beautiful City and Territory and wish you a wonderful experience.

We are an outdoor adventure paradise offering cross-country and downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, hiking, biking, golfing, boating, swimming, hunting, fishing, camping and much more. Many of these activities are available at Allegany State Park, the largest State Park east of the Mississippi.

Allegany State Park’s 65,000 acres is known for its primitive forested valleys, un-glaciated landscape, fall leaves and wildlife. The two developed areas, Red House and Quaker, make this the largest state park in the system. Both areas offer sand beaches, picnic areas, museums, hiking trails and naturalist walks. Walkers and bicycle riders take advantage of the 5 miles of paved trails around Red House. The Art Roscoe Ski Touring Area has some of the finest groomed cross country skiing and mountain bike trails in the Northeast. Snowmobilers are attracted to the park for its 90 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and over 150 winterized cabins. Other activities include bird watching, picnicking, fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, canoeing, and horseback riding. Visitors looking for anything from a weekend retreat to an extended vacation are able to choose from Allegany State Park’s 424 campsites, 375 cabins and three group camps available for rental. There are year round vacation rental cottages that are fully equipped with the latest conveniences located in both the Red House Lake and Quaker Lake areas.

If you prefer indoor adventure and learning, we offer full scale gaming and entertainment at the Seneca Allegany Casino. The Seneca Allegany Casino and Hotel is 68,000 square feet of world-class gaming, with more than 2,300 reel-spinning and video slot machines and 40 popular table games including Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, and several variations of Poker. You can learn about our cultural diversity and history while visiting the Seneca Iroquois National Museum, The Historical Society Museum and the Salamanca Rail Museum. Learn more about the people who, for centuries, have lived along the Oh-hi:yo’ (Allegheny River) at the Seneca Iroquois National Museum. Experience our rich and wonderful culture; discover historic events from the past that helped shape our present. Be sure to visit the gift shop filled with native artisan made objects. Step into the past and experience the Salamanca Rail Museum, a fully-restored passenger depot constructed in 1912 by the Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway. Through artifacts, photographs and video presentations, you’ll experience an era over 90 years ago, when rail was the primary means of transportation from city to city. Admission is free, however, donations are appreciated. The Museum is wheelchair accessible. Guided tours for groups are available by prior arrangement. See business directory for hours.
