What started as a lighthearted joke a few years ago, has evolved into the Summersville Lake Lighthouse, a joke no more. This is a 105-foot-7-inch, 72,000-pound, 10-story, full-beam lighthouse on the shores of the lake, and it is one of the region’s highlight tourist destinations, gaining ground on the New River Gorge Bridge. The Rochester Folk Art Guild presents its sixth annual Craft Weekend, from 8 a.m. Friday June 20th until 3 p.m. Sunday, June 22nd, at its East Hill Farm in Middlesex, N.Y. Workshops in pottery, wood-turning, weaving, wood block printing, documentary film making, poetry and drama will be taught by master craftspeople, including national, local and Guild artisans. I’ll have to admit that I’ve always thought all caves were alike. After all, a hole in the ground is a hole in the ground. Well, I’ve found out this is just another thing I’ve been wrong about! Hart County Kentucky’s three show caves are just like my children — they’re not at all alike, but they’re each special in their own way! Evidently, Kentucky caves have close relationships with water. Sometimes it drips down through the ground to form beautiful stalactite and stalagmite formations. You’ll find loads of those at Cub Run Cave and Mammoth Onyx Cave. And sometimes rivers bore through forming passageways. You’ll find that at Hidden River Cave. The Azalea Path Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, a nonprofit and privately-owned facility, is nestled on the Gibson/Pike County border in southwestern Indiana. Located in the old New York Central freight depot in Medina, NY, the Medina Railroad Museum is the largest railroad and toy train museum in NY State. The depot was built in 1905-06 and is the largest wood-frame freight house ever built by the NY Central Railroad Company.

Well-known for their work ethic, Amish artisans are also famous for their products’ exceptional quality and craftsmanship. As you travel along the Amish Trail, you can expect to find colorful handmade quilts and rugs, detailed indoor and outdoor furniture, fun wooden toys, leather harnesses, as well as fresh baked goods, candies, jams and cheese. However, leave your debit and credit cards at home – they only accept cash. Shops are closed on Sundays, some Wednesdays, certain holidays, for barn raisings, weddings and funerals.

Please remember to respect their privacy and personal property, and don’t photograph them, as it is against their beliefs. As you tour the enchanted countryside, drive cautiously and watch for black, slow-moving, horse-drawn buggies.
